3 Anime Villains Who Deserved To Win

Most anime villains deserve their defeats but not all. Some use unscrupulous means to justify their noble ends. Others are misunderstood victims of forces beyond their control. And then are some that make good points about the screwed up state of the world, though rather uncomfortably. Here are five anime villains who deserved to win :

Pain (Naruto:Shippuden)

Pain was once a little kid named Nagato, one of countless others orphaned by the Second Great Ninja War. A refugee turned revolutionary, the young Nagato started the Akatsuki as an independent mercenary organisation dedicated to protecting the weak and downtrodden. Pain's heart was always in the right place, but after his comrade Yahito was killed by an old foe, Nagato's methods became equally brutal to match.

His attack on the Hidden Leaf Village served a greater purpose, to eliminate the ninja nations of the world and rebuild a new society centered around peace and prosperity.Like a human forest fire, Pain wanted to burn the old system down so a better one could grow in its place. If only he'd lived to see it.

Scar (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

Scar technically did win at the end of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, but not on his own terms. A victim of the Ishavlan genocide committed by the neighboring kingdom of Amestris, Scar was forced to watch helplessly as his family, friends, and culture were systematically destroyed by a greater military power.

Using the powers of his enemies against them, Scar waged a one-man guerrilla war on the streets of Amestris, utilising a destructive form of alchemy to take brutal revenge on the military commanders who ordered the massacre of his people. Had Scar successfully eliminated the State Alchemists, perhaps the overarching antagonist Father wouldn't have been able to rise to power after all.

L (Death Note)

L is technically a villain in the same way that ketchup is technically a fruit. Despite being an ultimate force of good in the world, he serves as an antagonist to Death Note's anti-hero protagonist, Light Yagami. While some may argue that Light was the villain that should have a particularly nice place to live in.

L is the noblest ‘villain’ in anime, a man who believed that even the most depraved human beings should be allowed due process and a fair trial. Though he stood against someone who won in the end, a world ruled by a killer high schooler with a God complex doesn't sound like whose goal was to create a world without crime, it's clear that the moral cost to create such a world was too steep to pay.

These anime villains show that anime is more than just a show with right or wrong. They show the grey areas of human behaviour.
