Kiran Rao Responds To Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Criticism Of Aamir Khan: 'Why Has He Assumed...'
In response to 'Animal' director Sandeep Reddy Vanga 's remarks about Aamir Khan 's movies, filmmaker Kiran Rao has now addressed the situation. Reddy Vanga's comments followed speculations that Rao had criticized his films in a recent interview. Nonetheless, in her latest media interaction, Rao refuted claims of commenting on Reddy Vanga's works and also offered her perspective on his statements regarding Khan.
“I have never commented on Mr Sandeep’s films because I have never seen them. I have often spoken on misogyny and the representation of women on screen. I have talked about it on various platforms at various times. But I have never taken the name of any film because it is not about the specific film. Why Mr Vanga has assumed that I was talking about his film you’ll have to ask him. I have never seen his film,” Rao conveyed to The Quint.
Responding to Reddy Vanga's assertion that Aamir Khan himself had been involved in creating misogynistic songs like 'Khambe jaisi khadi hai' in the past, Rao pointed out that her ex-husband was among the rare individuals who had acknowledged and apologized for such instances. She emphasized, “There are very few people who would look back at their body of work and apologise for doing something problematic in retrospect.”
In response to the supposed criticism from Rao, Reddy Vanga had previously suggested that she should redirect her attention and "focus" on Khan's movies instead.
Reddy Vanga highlighted a scene from the film Dil, where Aamir Khan's character threatens a woman with assault, yet they eventually develop a romantic relationship. In response to the alleged criticism from Kiran Rao, Reddy Vanga remarked to Dainik Bhaskar, “I want to tell that woman (Kiran Rao) that go and ask Aamir Khan about the song ‘Khambe jaisi khadi hai’, what was that? Then come back to me.”
