Makers Clarify Rumors About Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal Leaving Shark Tank India
The controversy surrounding Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal ’s departure from Shark Tank India has finally been addressed by the show’s creators. The speculation took center stage online as Season 4 began filming with returning sharks Anupam Mittal, Aman Gupta , Namita Thapar, Peyush Bansal, and Ritesh Agarwal, alongside a new shark, Viraj Bahl , founder of Veeba.
When asked about the situation, Viraj expressed light-hearted gratitude, saying, “Deepinder gaya toh mere ko jagah mil gaya (Because Deepinder left, I got this spot). I can even write him a thank-you note.”
Danish Khan, Business Head of Sony LIV , dismissed the rumors, explaining the complexities of scheduling the busy sharks. “We’d love to have Deepinder back at some point. What’s being reported isn’t entirely accurate. Some sharks have been here since Season 1, and we look forward to welcoming them again,” he said.
Aman Gupta, a veteran shark, also weighed in, debunking claims that financial sponsorships influence shark participation. “I’ve been here for four seasons without paying a single penny. Sharks will come and go, but the spirit of the show remains intact,” Aman shared.
Deepinder Goyal, who debuted in Season 3, shed light on his brief appearance during the ET Startup Awards. He revealed his intent to reshape India’s startup narrative. “I felt it was my moral obligation to bring a real perspective on building startups . I shot for just one weekend,” he said. Addressing the rumors, Goyal added with a laugh, “I can’t go back because Swiggy sponsored Shark Tank this time and, apparently, kicked me out.”
