'Dhurandhar 2' Set for Rs 200 Cr Opening; Ranveer Singh Eyes 'Baahubali' and 'Pushpa 2' Records

The Dhurandhar wave is far from over, and if early trends are anything to go by, it’s only getting bigger. Released on December 5 last year, the Aditya Dhar directorial stunned everyone by crossing Rs 1300 crore worldwide, emerging as the highest-grossing Hindi film in India and the top A-rated Indian film ever. What made its success even more remarkable was its quiet approach, no aggressive promotions, just pure word-of-mouth magic.

Now, just three months later, the sequel is ready and it’s already rewriting the rulebook.

Advance Booking Frenzy Signals a Massive Start

' Dhurandhar 2 : The Revenge' is off to a roaring start even before release. With over 12.5 lakh tickets sold and day-one advance bookings nearing Rs 30 crore domestically, the film is inching close to the pre-sale numbers of Animal. On BookMyShow alone, around 6.3 lakh users have shown interest in catching the first-day-first-show.

Preview screenings on March 18 have sold out rapidly, with ticket sales reportedly touching 17,000 per hour. The film is also gearing up for a massive release across 10,000+ screens worldwide, including over 9,500 shows in India. Early preview collections are said to have already crossed Rs 32 crore, hinting at a record-smashing opening.

‘Sky Is The Limit’ for the Sequel

Trade experts are unanimous, this could be a game-changer. “Sky is the limit for Dhurandhar 2 . The first part created a box-office tsunami. But one thing is for sure – this film will create history. It will create history in its paid previews, day one, first weekend, extended weekend, lifetime. It will set a new benchmark. First day, excluding paid previews, should be around Rs 80 crore – Rs 90 crore. This is for the Hindi version," says Taran Adarsh.

Atul Mohan goes a step further, comparing the buzz to India’s biggest franchises. “For Dhurandhar part one, expectations were less and so, the pre-sale figures weren’t very high. It only picked up on day three-four. But Dhurandhar 2 will wreak havoc even with the paid previews. I predict Dhurandhar 2’s day one collection to be Rs 75 crore – Rs 80 crore (domestic). It will see the biggest day one and highest paid preview figure for a Hindi film," he states.

Globally, expectations are sky-high. Industry expert Ramesh Bala believes the film could open between Rs 150-175 crore worldwide and might even touch Rs 200 crore, thanks to a solo release window and minimal competition. "It could clock Rs 150 crore – Rs 175 crore on day one (plus premiere shows), worldwide. I won’t be surprised if it even earns Rs 200 crore. Toxic isn’t releasing on March 19 and that’s working in Dhurandhar 2’s advantage as it’s getting a solo release now. No other big film is running right now. They’ll make the most of this quiet period," he remarked.

Bigger Reach, Bolder Strategy

One major advantage this time is its multilingual release. Unlike the first part, Dhurandhar 2 will hit screens in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, expanding its reach significantly.

Adarsh highlights this as a smart move: “It was a great decision to dub it in other languages. Look at the advance bookings! When the first part came out, a lot of people had wished it had released in their local languages too. They makers decided to go for it this time and the paid previews bear a testament to what a good decision it is!"

Despite its lengthy runtime of nearly four hours, trade analysts remain confident. As Adarsh puts it, strong content always wins, just like films such as Sholay and Mughal-e-Azam did in the past.

Clash in the South, Dominance in the North

While the film enjoys a largely uncontested release nationwide, it will face competition in Telugu states from Pawan Kalyan’s 'Ustaad Bhagat Singh'. Even so, experts believe 'Dhurandhar 2' will dominate the Hindi belt and perform strongly across other regions due to its sequel advantage and massive hype.

Interestingly, other big-ticket films like Toxic and Dacoit have stepped aside, giving Dhar’s film a clear runway to maximize its box office potential.

The Power of Perfect Timing

One of the film’s biggest strengths is its quick turnaround. Unlike franchises that take years between installments, Dhurandhar 2 arrives just three months after the original, keeping the buzz alive.

Atul Mohan calls this strategy a “USP,” noting how the film has stayed relevant through music, memes, and online discussions. The re-release of the first part just before the sequel has only added to the excitement.

A Comeback Story in the Making

The film’s success also marks a turning point for Ranveer Singh . After a mixed phase, Dhurandhar has reignited his box office dominance and restored confidence in his ability to lead large-scale entertainers.

As Adarsh sums it up, “It’s a milestone in both Ranveer and Aditya’s careers. It’s a crown they’ll always cherish. Something of this sort happens very rarely. It’s a very big thing for all of them."
