The heartbreaking announcement came through Udhas's daughter, Nayaab Udhas , who shared the news on Instagram. She expressed, "With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to prolonged illness." Pankaj Udhas had left an indelible mark on Hindi cinema and Indian pop music.
His musical journey soared to prominence with the release of his ghazal album "Aahat" in 1980, followed by a string of hits like "Mukarar," "Tarrannum," and "Mehfil." The soul-stirring "Chitthi Aayee Hai" from the film "Naam" had catapulted him to widespread acclaim. In 2006, Udhas was honored with the prestigious Padma Shri. He departed this world at the age of 72.
Notable collaborations marked his career, including the 1990 duet "Mahiya Teri Kasam" with Lata Mangeshkar for the film Ghayal, which became a chartbuster. In 1994, his rendition of "Na Kajre Ki Dhar" alongside Sadhana Sargam for the film Mohra garnered immense popularity. Udhas also made significant contributions as a playback singer in movies such as Saajan, Yeh Dillagi, Naam, and Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee.
