Shankar Mahadevan Extends Heartfelt Congratulations To 'Dearest and Greatest' Gulzar On Jnanpith Award Win, Shares Memorable Photo
Musician Shankar Mahadevan extended his congratulations to lyricist and poet Gulzar for his Jnanpith Award win. Taking to Instagram on Monday, Shankar posted a heartfelt photograph featuring himself alongside Gulzar.
In the image, the pair sat side by side, engaging in conversation with smiles on their faces. Shankar wore a classic black ensemble, while Gulzar chose a white kurta-pyjama.
He wrote, “Heartiest congratulations to my dearest and the greatest @gulzar_poetry for being awarded the prestigious Gyanpeeth award! I feel so blessed to be able to spend such beautiful creative moments with you !! Love you sir !! @meghnagulzar.”
The selection committee has announced that Swami Rambhadracharya has been awarded the 58th Jnanpith Award for Sanskrit, while Shri Gulzar has been honored with the award for Urdu for the year 2023.
Sampooran Singh Kalra, better known as Gulzar, embarked on his illustrious career as a lyricist with the movie Kabuliwala, featuring Balraj Sahni. Renowned for his iconic contributions to Hindi cinema, he has crafted memorable songs and scripts for numerous films. Additionally, Gulzar has garnered acclaim as a director, helming notable feature films such as Maachis, Aandhi, Mausam, Khushboo, Parichay, and Koshish.
He has previously been honored with the Sahitya Akademi Award for Urdu in 2002, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2013, the Padma Bhushan in 2004, and has received at least five National Film Awards for his contributions.
The Jnanpith Award, established in 1961 by Bharatiya Jnanpith, stands as one of the premier honors in Indian literature, alongside the Sahitya Akademi Awards.
