The Inside Scoop: Ameesha Patel's Candid Explanation for Turning Down Shah Rukh Khan's 'Chalte Chalte'
Ameesha Patel recently appeared alongside Sunny Deol in "Gadar 2," the sequel to the 2001 hit film "Gadar: Ek Prem Katha." In the original film, she portrayed the character Sakeena, a role she was offered soon after her debut in "Kaho Na Pyaar Hai" opposite Hrithik Roshan. Both movies were successful at the box office. Ameesha previously disclosed turning down roles in films that later became major box office hits, including Shah Rukh Khan 's " Chalte Chalte ." She has now revealed the actual reason behind declining the role.
During a conversation with Siddharth Kanan , Ameesha revealed that she encountered Shah Rukh Khan at the dubbing studio while working on Humraaz. Khan expressed his desire to show her a snippet of a film she had supposedly “rejected”. Ameesha admitted, “Mujhe pata hi nahi tha ki that film was offered to me. There were people who played… people who were managing your work, there was a divide like this.”
“For a long time, there was a hierarchy of secretaries and managers, they didn’t let projects get to the actor. There was a lot of that,” she added. Ameesha said that many directors were “scared” to approach her. She said, “Yashi ji, Sanjay Leela Bhansali , Sajid Nadiadwala, lots of people… they said we were scared to approach you because of the person managing you.”
Meanwhile, in the realm of work, there's widespread speculation that Abbas and Mustan are gearing up to direct a sequel to their 2002 romantic thriller "Humraaz" after a hiatus of 22 years. It's reported that Abbas-Mustan, along with producer Ratan Jain, are eager to reunite Bobby and Akshaye to reprise their roles in the anticipated sequel.
It's still uncertain whether Ameesha will be part of the sequel to "Humraaz." When contacted by News18 Showsha, she disclosed that while she's been aware of a sequel for some time, she remains unsure if the script has been finalized by the makers.
