Varun Dhawan , a fervent admirer of action films, has seen his aspiration of portraying an action hero materialize. Following the completion of the Citadel series, he collaborated with director Atlee Kumar and producer Murad Khetani to craft a thrilling action spectacle. Although initially referred to as 'VD18,' the film is now rumored to be titled ' Baby John ,' pending an official announcement.
A Reddit post featuring the film's certification details quickly went viral. According to the microblogging site, the movie is officially titled 'Baby John' and has received a UA certification from the CBFC. Despite this revelation, an official confirmation of the film's title is still pending.
In December of the previous year, Varun Dhawan utilized his Instagram platform to announce the completion of the film's Kochi schedule. Accompanied by a series of photos, he expressed gratitude, stating, “Thank u Kerala. Sched wrap #vd18.” In a prior conversation with Pinkvilla, Varun shared insights about the film, saying, “All I can say is it’s a mass-action entertainer. There is a lot of entertainment in the film, which I love as well. And, I’m just going to give it my all.”
Reports suggest that VD18 is the Hindi adaptation of Thalapathy Vijay's highly successful movie, 'Theri.' This project signifies Varun's maiden collaboration with director Atlee. Atlee's previous venture, ' Jawan ,' boasted Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role and achieved massive success. Notably, 'Jawan' marked Nayanthara's debut in Hindi cinema, and similarly, 'Baby John' will showcase Keerthy Suresh making her Hindi debut. The film also features Wamiqa Gabbi in a significant role.
Tamil filmmaker Kalees is set to direct the movie, as per reports, with the scheduled release date being May 31, 2024.
