Yuvraj Singh’s Hilarious Love Story: How Hazel Keech Made Him Wait 3.5 Years
Cricketer Yuvraj Singh and actor Hazel Keech once appeared on The Kapil Sharma Show , where they shared their hilarious love story. The usually reserved Yuvraj opened up about how he first noticed Hazel at a friend’s party and was instantly smitten.
'She didn’t care to even show me her face for about 3.5 years,' Yuvraj laughed. 'I requested her so many times, but she just wouldn’t meet me. When she finally did, she walked like a man and that impressed me! I thought, this girl is different. Then I decided to just focus on her cute face.'
His early attempts to woo her, however, didn’t go as planned. 'I once texted her saying I was sick, and she replied, good luck! That’s when I realised she’s extremely weird and I stopped talking to her,' he said.
Fate intervened later when Yuvraj discovered Hazel was friends with one of his friends. 'I told him to stay away from her because one day, I’m going to marry this girl!' he joked.
After years of waiting, Hazel finally added him on Facebook. 'I immediately sent her a folded-hands emoji and thanked her for accepting my request after 3.5 years,' Yuvraj said. But Hazel still kept him waiting another year before saying yes.
Hazel admitted she wasn’t initially interested. 'Once, he asked me out for coffee, and I said yes then switched off my phone,' she laughed. When asked when she finally fell for him, she said, 'I don’t know, maybe the day he proposed. He seemed decent , I could think about it.'
Recalling the proposal, Yuvraj added, 'When I knelt down, I forgot which finger to put the ring on. I had to ask her, which one? And she said, left!'
When asked about his mother’s reaction, Yuvraj quipped, 'My mom loved her. She said, I’m so happy you’re marrying a man!'
The couple got engaged in 2015 and married the next year in a grand Sikh-Hindu ceremony. After the wedding, Hazel adopted the name Gurbasant Kaur.
Yuvraj’s father, Yograj Singh, once shared, 'When he turned 38, I told him to find his own partner. I wanted an Irish or English girl in the family. Then Hazel came into our lives. She’s not my daughter-in-law; she’s my daughter.'
