23-year-old nurse's organs donated after brain death following cardiac arrest
Bhadravati: The parents of a 23-year-old woman from Bhadravati donated her organs after she was declared brain dead following a severe cardiac arrest, helping several patients in need.
Keerthana (23), a resident of Subhash Nagar in Hosamane locality, was the elder daughter of Kumar, a mechanic, and Neela, a garment worker.
According to family members, Keerthana suffered a severe cardiac arrest while on duty at the hospital last Tuesday. She was admitted to the intensive care unit and underwent treatment. However, doctors later informed the family that around 95 per cent of her brain function had been lost and that recovery was unlikely.
Following consultations with doctors, her parents decided to donate her organs.
Her heart valves, lungs, liver and kidneys were donated to KIMS Hospital on K.R. Puram Road in Bengaluru.The family said Keerthana had often spoken about helping the poor and supporting others. She had also expressed the view that organ donation could help save lives even after a person's death.
Remembering those conversations, her parents decided to donate her organs, believing it would honour her wishes and benefit others.
