Assam Police Seize Drugs Worth ₹60 Lakhs, Two Arrested
Guwahati, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Assam police have seized a significant haul of suspected narcotic tablets valued at approximately ₹60 lakhs in Hailakandi district, arresting two individuals in connection with the case. The operation, which took place on October 2, was part of a broader initiative to combat drug trafficking and illegal transportation in the region.
During the operation, authorities recovered 816.9 grams of suspected yaba tablets, a synthetic drug containing methamphetamine and caffeine, commonly trafficked in the northeastern region of India. The arrested suspects have been identified as Baharul Alam Majumdar and Chayek Hussain Laskar. Police detained the suspects after they were stopped and found in possession of the prohibited substances. Following the seizure, a case has been registered, and investigations are underway to trace the source of the drugs and identify individuals involved in their distribution.Investigators are also looking into whether the arrested suspects are connected to a larger interstate drug trafficking network operating in Assam and neighboring states. Authorities are questioning the suspects to gather information about the supply chain, including the origin of the shipment, its intended destination, and other individuals involved in the network. In response to this incident, police have increased surveillance and checks in sensitive areas known for drug transportation routes.
