Delhi on High Alert as INDIA Bloc MPs Plan March to ECI Over Gyanesh Kumar, SIR Row

Security arrangements have been stepped up across central Delhi ahead of a proposed march by MPs of the INDIA bloc to the Election Commission of India (ECI) office on Tuesday. The opposition parties are planning to raise concerns related to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

Police and security personnel have been deployed at several important locations in the capital. Barricades have also been installed at strategic points to regulate the movement of people and prevent any disruption to traffic and public movement.

The heightened security comes as opposition MPs are expected to assemble near Makar Dwar and proceed towards the Election Commission office. Authorities have made arrangements to manage the gathering and maintain law and order during the proposed demonstration.

Heavy Security Deployment in Central Delhi

A significant number of Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel have been deployed in and around areas that could witness increased movement during the protest. Security personnel were reported near Akashvani Bhawan, Patel Chowk Metro station and Vijay Chowk.

Delhi Police teams have also been positioned at several key points. Barricades have been placed in areas along the expected route of the march. Police are closely monitoring the situation and keeping a watch on the movement of people.

The deployment is intended to ensure that the demonstration does not result in clashes, disruption of essential services or major inconvenience to commuters in central Delhi.

With several important government buildings and public transport points located in the area, security agencies are taking additional precautions. Commuters travelling through central Delhi may also face restrictions or diversions depending on the movement of protesters and the security situation.

INDIA Bloc MPs to Raise Gyanesh Kumar and SIR Issues

The proposed march is linked to opposition concerns over Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

The SIR exercise has become a major political issue, with opposition parties questioning aspects of the revision process and raising concerns about its possible impact on voters and electoral rolls. The Election Commission, meanwhile, has maintained that electoral roll revision is part of its constitutional responsibility and is aimed at ensuring accurate and updated voter lists.

The INDIA bloc parties have decided to take their concerns directly to the Election Commission through the planned march. Opposition MPs are expected to seek answers and raise their objections regarding the issues surrounding the electoral roll revision process.

Security Also Increased Near Jantar Mantar

Apart from the areas along the proposed march route, security has also been strengthened around Jantar Mantar.

Authorities have imposed restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in the area. The provision allows authorities to impose restrictions when there is a concern about public order, safety or the possibility of disturbances.

Police personnel have been deployed around the protest-sensitive areas and are monitoring public movement. The additional security measures are aimed at preventing overcrowding and ensuring that the situation remains under control.

Barricades Put Up to Control Movement

Barricades have been placed at several locations in central Delhi as part of the security arrangements. Such measures are commonly used during high-profile demonstrations to separate protesters from restricted areas and to create controlled routes for public movement.

Police officials are also expected to regulate traffic depending on the size and movement of the gathering. People travelling towards government offices, metro stations and other important locations in central Delhi may therefore experience temporary restrictions.

Security agencies are keeping the situation under close observation as the proposed march gets under way. The focus is on allowing the political demonstration to take place while preventing any incident that could affect public safety.

Political Significance of the Protest

The planned march comes at a time when the Election Commission and the process of electoral roll revision are facing increased political scrutiny. For the INDIA bloc, the protest provides an opportunity to put its concerns directly before the poll body and draw attention to its objections over the SIR exercise.

For authorities, the immediate priority is maintaining law and order in central Delhi. With senior political leaders and MPs expected to participate, security arrangements have been strengthened well in advance.

The situation is likely to remain closely monitored throughout the day, particularly around Makar Dwar, Vijay Chowk, Patel Chowk, Akashvani Bhawan and the ECI office. Any changes to traffic movement or access to specific areas will depend on the size and route of the gathering.

At present, security personnel remain deployed at key locations, while police teams continue to monitor the situation. The authorities are expected to adjust security and traffic arrangements according to developments during the INDIA bloc's proposed march.
