'Democracy chori,' says BJP citing HC order on Sonia case
NEW DELHI: Attacked by Congress for "vote chori", BJP Tuesday latched on to a Delhi court order to charge its rival with " democracy chori " and asked Rahul Gandhi to respond to allegation that Sonia Gandhi had cast her vote in 1980 even before she accepted Indian citizenship.
BJP's offensive came a day after a Delhi court set aside a magistrate's order refusing to probe the allegation that Sonia's name was included in the poll rolls three years before she acquired Indian citizenship in 1983. Court ordered a fresh hearing to decide whether a cognisable offence was committed.
"Those spreading false propaganda of 'vote chori' have turned out to be stealing democracy as only Indian citizens can be voters," BJP's Pradeep Bhandari said.
