Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Alert Issued in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms across several districts in Madhya Pradesh. This alert was announced on Monday evening from the Bhopal center. According to the IMD, districts including Sehore, Dewas, Betul, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Sagar, and Tikamgarh are expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and moderate rainfall.Rainfall intensity in these areas is forecasted to range from 5 to 15 mm per hour, with a 30 to 60 percent chance of lightning strikes. A broader area encompassing Harda, Narmadapuram, Pachmarhi, Guna, Shivpuri, Ashoknagar, Niwari, Orchha, Chhatarpur, Khajuraho, Panna, Satna, Chitrakoot, Mandla, Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, Singrauli, Shahdol, Anuppur, Amarkantak, Dindori, Maihar, Balaghat, Jabalpur, Umaria, Bandhavgarh, Narsinghpur, Shajapur, Rajgarh, Bhopal, and Vidisha is also likely to see lightning and light rainfall.The IMD has outlined potential impacts of the anticipated heavy rainfall, including flooding in low-lying areas, disruptions to road, rail, and air traffic due to poor visibility, risks to old and weak structures, temporary power outages, and minor damage to standing crops and plantations. Incidents of loss of life and property cannot be ruled out. Residents are advised to stay away from low-lying areas and temporary shelters near rivers and streams. It is crucial to avoid seeking shelter under trees during thunderstorms and to move indoors or to sturdy buildings.If necessary, evacuate from unsafe structures. The meteorological center also recommends having backup power arrangements and contingency plans for traffic delays. Citizens are urged to keep a safe distance from overflowing rivers and streams and to avoid areas where water levels may rise suddenly. The weather center advises the public to monitor official updates regularly. Officials in the alerted districts have been instructed to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to minimize inconvenience and ensure public safety during the forecast period.
