First Bullet Train Ride From Surat To Bilimora In 2027: Routes, Fares, And Key Details
The dream of high-speed rail in India is fast becoming a reality. Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently announced that the first segment of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor will be inaugurated on Independence Day, 15 August 2027. While the entire 508-km corridor is slated for completion by 2029, the government is adopting a phased approach to bring this revolutionary technology to passengers as soon as possible.
The Phased Rollout: Where Will It Start?
According to the Minister, the first section of the India first bullet train launch will operate between Surat and Bilimora. Following this, the network will expand in a specific sequence to connect more hubs across Gujarat and eventually Maharashtra.
“The bullet train will be ready in 2027, August 15th, 2027. The first section to open will be from Surat to Bilimora. After that, Vapi to Surat will open. Then Vapi to Ahmedabad will open, and after that, Thane to Ahmedabad will open, and then Mumbai to Ahmedabad will open,” Vaishnaw said.
Excitingly, construction has progressed faster than initially anticipated. While the original plan was to launch on a 50-km stretch, the Minister hinted that the Surat to Bilimora bullet train debut might actually cover a longer 100-km stretch between Ahmedabad and Vapi by August 2027. This reflects the "very good" progress of the civil works, which has been closely monitored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Key Features and Travel Time
The Mumbai Ahmedabad bullet train stations list includes 12 key stops: Mumbai (BKC), Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati. Once the full corridor is operational, it will change the face of regional travel:

Engineering Marvels
The project involves incredible engineering feats, including India’s first undersea rail tunnel near Thane Creek and massive elevated viaducts that span 465 km of the route. As of late 2025, over 330 km of viaduct work has been completed, and station structures in Gujarat, such as the diamond-inspired Surat station, are already taking shape. The success of high-speed rail corridor 2027 is expected to serve as a template for future projects across India, linking major economic zones with unprecedented efficiency.
