Jammu and Kashmir Police Arrest Long-Fugitive Drug Offender After Eight Years

Jammu, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : Jammu and Kashmir Police's Crime Branch announced on Tuesday that they have apprehended a long-fugitive criminal linked to an old drug case. In a statement released on Tuesday, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch revealed that they successfully captured the individual, who had evaded judicial proceedings for an extended period.The suspect, identified as Amjad Ali Naik, son of Abdul Qadeer Naik from Ratnipora in Shopian district, was wanted in connection with an FIR registered under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act, numbered 44/2004. The Crime Branch noted that a charge sheet had already been submitted to the court of the Second Additional Sessions Judge in Jammu. Following a thorough investigation, the EOW team managed to locate and arrest the accused. After his capture, Naik was presented before the Second Additional Sessions Judge for further legal proceedings.This arrest represents a crucial development in a case that had been pending due to the suspect's prolonged absence. The statement further emphasized the Crime Branch's commitment to identifying individuals who evade legal processes and presenting them before competent courts. Faisal Qureshi, SSP of the Crime Branch EOW Jammu, issued a warning to long-absconding offenders, urging them to surrender and cooperate with legal proceedings. The EOW Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch is a specialized unit focusing on high-profile economic offenses, as regional police typically do not handle such cases due to the need for dedicated investigators equipped with technical support.
