Jammu-Srinagar highway: 1 killed, 56 injured in twin accidents in J&K's Ramban
A tourist from West Bengal was killed and 56 people, including nine security personnel, were injured in two separate road accidents on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in J&K’s Ramban district on Saturday.
The accidents occurred within half an hour and involved a passenger bus carrying tourists and a security vehicle that was on its way to assist in the rescue operation, PTI reported citing officials.

Tourist bus crashes into hillside
The first accident took place around 8.50am near Maroog when a passenger bus travelling from Srinagar to Jammu lost control and collided with a hillside, officials said
The bus, which had a West Bengal registration, was carrying tourists returning from a holiday in Kashmir. A woman passenger, identified as Jamuna from West Bengal, died in the accident, while 47 others were injured.
Four of the injured: Suchitra, Lakshwanti, Kedar Patra and Fouji Ram, were referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Jammu for treatment. The remaining injured passengers were stable and were expected to be discharged within a few hours, officials said.
Rescue vehicle overturns
After receiving information about the bus accident, a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF was rushed from the District Police Lines in Ramban to assist with the rescue operation.
However, the security vehicle overturned near Kela Morh while travelling to the accident site, injuring six police personnel and three CRPF personnel, officials said. All nine injured security personnel were stable, they added.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the death and assured that the seriously injured would receive the best possible medical treatment.
"Deeply anguished by the tragic bus accident in Ramban, in which one person lost her life. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Spoke with DC (Deputy Commissioner) Ramban to ensure best possible treatment for the seriously injured shifted to GMC Jammu. Praying for their speedy recovery," Sinha said in a post on X.
