The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme is designed to provide farmers with easier access to credit for farming and allied activities. It can help meet expenses such as buying seeds, fertilisers and pesticides, irrigation and other agricultural needs.
The loan can be used for several farming activities, including sowing, purchasing agricultural inputs, irrigation and other related expenses.
The scheme also covers allied activities such as animal husbandry and fisheries.
However, eligible farmers can benefit from government support that lowers the effective interest burden. The government provides an interest subvention of 1.5%.
Farmers who repay their loans on time can also receive an additional 3% repayment incentive. Together, these benefits can provide a total annual benefit of up to 4% against the base rate of 7%.
