Maharashtra school gives 82 children half-shaved heads as punishment
Mumbai: In a shocking incident, 82 children at a government-run ashram school in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district were allegedly punished by having half their heads shaved on Saturday.
The incident took place at the Government Secondary Ashram School in Jambhulghat, in Chimur taluk. As the school is residential, students are given haircuts on the school premises. According to reports, some children were playing while waiting in line for their turn.
The school in-charge allegedly became angry after seeing the students playing during the haircut session and instructed the barber to shave half of their hair.
The incident came to light after photographs of the children with half-shaved heads and unusual hairstyles went viral. The incident triggered anger among parents.
Following this, senior officials directed the school authorities to correct the children’s hairstyles. A show-cause notice was also issued to the school in-charge.
However, the school in-charge is reported to have defended the action.
