Bihar’s new NDA government has hit the ground running with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar finalising the long-awaited portfolio distribution for all 26 ministers. Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary will now helm the crucial Home Ministry, marking a significant shift in the state’s administrative leadership. The complete list of ministries has reportedly been submitted to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan.

Nitish’s other deputy, Vijay Sinha, has been assigned the Mines and Geology department, while senior leader Ramkripal Yadav will oversee Agriculture, another heavyweight ministry in the cabinet.


With the BJP emerging as the largest partner in the ruling alliance, the party has secured several high-impact ministries, including Home, Health, Road Construction, and Agriculture. JD(U), LJP(Ram Vilas), HAM, and RLM ministers also took charge of their respective departments following the oath-taking ceremony on Thursday, when Nitish Kumar was sworn in for a record tenth term as Chief Minister.

Friday also marked the formal conclusion of one of the most closely watched elections in the state. The NDA swept the 2025 Bihar Assembly polls, clinching 202 out of 243 seats, firmly cementing its mandate.
  • BJP emerged as the single-largest party with 89 seats
  • JD(U) followed with 85 seats under Nitish Kumar’s leadership
  • LJP (Ram Vilas) secured 19 seats
  • HAM(S) won 5 seats
  • Rashtriya Lok Morcha picked up 4 seats

With Nitish back at the helm and BJP leaders handling key ministries, Bihar’s new political setup signals a phase of strong coalition governance, and perhaps a fresh administrative direction for the state.
