Republic Day 2026: Date, Timings and Theme

The main event kicks off at 9:30 AM on 26 January 2026. Spectators with tickets are advised to reach by 7:00 AM to navigate the multi-layered security checks.


The central theme for this year is "150 Years of Vande Mataram" and "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India). To mark the 150th anniversary of the national song, the Ministry of Culture will present a special tableau, and unique view-cutters featuring 1923 paintings of the song's verses will line the parade route.

The Parade Route and Highlights

The Republic Day parade route begins at Vijay Chowk, moving through Kartavya Path, past India Gate, and concluding at the Red Fort.
  • Chief Guests: This year, India welcomes two prominent European leaders—António Costa (President of the European Council) and Ursula von der Leyen (President of the European Commission).
  • Military Power: Look out for the Battle Array Format, a first for the Indian Army, alongside a magnificent flypast featuring 29 aircraft, including Rafale and Su-30 MKI jets.
  • Tableaux: A total of 30 colourful tableaux from various States, UTs, and Ministries will showcase India's diversity.

Security and Prohibited Items

Security is at an all-time high with AI-enabled facial recognition and anti-drone systems in place. Delhi Police has issued a strict list of prohibited items:
"Avoid carrying sharp objects, lighters, matchboxes, or large bags. Electronic gadgets like power banks, chargers, and professional cameras are strictly not allowed inside the enclosures. Only mobile phones are permitted for personal use."


Travel Tips: Delhi Metro and Parking

To help commuters, the Delhi Metro will start services at 3:00 AM on all lines on 26 January. If you have a valid invite or ticket, you can even avail of free metro travel to reach the Central Secretariat or Udyog Bhawan stations.
