She was present in the VOC government school and helped voters with its built in voice features.

Multi purpose robot

Nila is an event based interactive robot developed in Coimbatore and was developed for multiple public settings like wedding, public gathering and even elections.

Robo Mirror’s creators said that it is created to help with the user experience by giving commands and guidance using its built-in voice features especially in crowded environments.

"This robot has a name, Nila. This is an event-based robot – events like weddings, official work and elections. We are coming from Coimbatore. Nila robot has multiple features. It also has a voice feature, and it can talk on its own. We can feed in the command, and the voice will be audible to the person nearby. She is welcoming the voters here," said the creator.

This was evident in the polling booths as Nina was seen greeting the voters and offering guidance to them.

It delivered clear instructions, such as the following:

“Welcome to the polling station. I am your election assistance robot. Please proceed from here and follow the queue. Kindly keep your voter card ready and follow the instructions.”

Nila can speak multiple languages too and spoke in both English and Tamil in the voting booth.

A hit among the voters

Voters especially loved the robot and were obviously very curious about it due to its uniqueness and many stopped and interacted with Nila especially the first time voters. It also helped break the seriousness and tension that usually comes with elections by bringing something like this which melted netizen’s hearts.

However, many were wondering if the robot was designed to replace the human staff which the officials clarified that Nina was just a support system and human polling officers were still very much in charge of the voting process and the robot simply assisted by providing basic guidance and information.

The usage of Nila shows how technology is advancing and how human integration with technology is making human lives easier and simple.
