Kolkata, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : South Eastern Railway (SER) has commenced a vital training initiative aimed at equipping its employees with life-saving skills, following directives from the Railway Board. This program is designed to enhance the ability of staff to respond effectively in emergency situations. On September 22, the SER headquarters in Garden Reach, Kolkata, launched a 'Hands-on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Basic Life Support (BLS) Training Program' for employees across the zone.
The primary goal is to train at least 20 percent of the workforce at both the headquarters and divisional levels in essential CPR techniques through practical training. The training is being conducted in collaboration with SER's Medical Department and the St. John Ambulance Brigade, and will span three months. An official noted that similar hands-on CPR and BLS training sessions are being integrated into the schedules of various railway training institutes under SER.These sessions have already begun at different divisional headquarters and health units. During the training event, 68 selected employees received instruction. The program included three main components: a PowerPoint presentation on CPR and BLS, practical training using mannequins, and a multiple-choice question session to assess participants' understanding. Successful participants were awarded certificates upon completion. The initiative aims to raise awareness and preparedness among railway employees, enabling them to act effectively during medical emergencies and potentially save lives. The practical CPR training will continue weekly at the Garden Reach headquarters until all departmental employees have participated. The official emphasized that these skills will prove beneficial not only in the workplace but also in everyday situations, whether employees are with family, friends, or on the move. CPR is crucial for saving lives following cardiac arrests and is essential in emergencies such as accidents, fires, or building collapses.
