According to Chittaranjan Behera, the sub-divisional police officer of Kamakhyanagar, the couple had a heated argument late Saturday night. In a fit of rage, Ratnakar attacked Rasmit with a heavy wooden stick, resulting in her death. Overcome with remorse, he later committed suicide. Local residents revealed that the couple had three daughters. Ratnakar, a daily wage laborer, was known to frequently argue with his wife, often under the influence of alcohol. On the night of the incident, he reignited an old argument with Rasmit, which escalated violently.
After Rasmit's death, Ratnakar took their daughters to his younger brother's house, which was empty at the time. He left the children inside and locked the door from the outside. He then reportedly hanged himself from a tree in front of their home. Upon receiving the news, local police and a forensic team arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation. The bodies of both Ratnakar and Rasmit were sent to the Parjang Community Health Center for autopsy. A case has been registered at the Parjang police station based on a report filed by Ratnakar's sister.
