According to weather officials, southern and northeastern states are likely to experience widespread rainfall during the next five days. At the same time, parts of Northwest and Central India continue to remain under the grip of scorching temperatures.

Meteorologists have also indicated that monsoon conditions are gradually becoming favourable over nearby sea regions, with further advancement expected around 16 May, 2026.

Rainfall Activity Likely To Intensify In Southern States

Several southern states are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall during the ongoing weather spell. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe and parts of Karnataka are among the regions where isolated heavy showers are likely between 13 May and 17 May.

Weather officials have also warned of thunderstorms and lightning activity across parts of Telangana and Coastal Karnataka. Gusty winds and brief intense rain spells may affect normal daily activity in some areas.

In Lakshadweep and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, rain-bearing systems are also expected to remain active during the week, increasing the possibility of localised heavy downpours.

Northeast India Braces For Very Heavy Rain

The northeastern region is likely to witness one of the strongest rainfall spells during this period. States such as Assam and Meghalaya are expected to receive persistent heavy rainfall from 15 May onwards.

Arunachal Pradesh may experience particularly intense conditions, with forecasts indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall on selected days during the week. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as prolonged rainfall could lead to waterlogging and disruption in vulnerable locations.

Meanwhile, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are also expected to remain under rainfall alerts due to ongoing thunderstorm activity.

Storm And Lightning Alert In Eastern India

Eastern states are also expected to witness unstable weather conditions over the coming days. Jharkhand may experience strong winds with speeds reaching up to 60 kilometres per hour along with thunderstorms and scattered rainfall activity.

In Bihar, thunderstorm and lightning alerts have been issued for multiple days this week. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during periods of severe weather, particularly in open areas during lightning activity.

Heavy Rainfall Forecast For Himalayan Regions

Sub-Himalayan regions of West Bengal and neighbouring Sikkim are likely to receive heavy rainfall between 14 May and 16 May. The weather system affecting these regions may bring periods of continuous showers accompanied by cloudy skies and occasional thunderstorms.

Officials have advised residents in hilly and vulnerable zones to stay updated with local advisories as changing weather conditions could impact transport and outdoor movement.

Heatwave Conditions Continue In Northern And Central India

Even as rain activity increases in several parts of the country, intense heatwave conditions continue across portions of North and Central India. Daytime temperatures remain significantly above seasonal averages in some areas, creating difficult conditions for residents.

The contrast between heatwave-affected zones and rain-hit regions highlights the complex weather pattern currently affecting the country before the full onset of the southwest monsoon.

Meteorologists believe that increasing moisture and changing wind patterns may gradually influence weather conditions further in the coming days.

Monsoon Advancement Being Closely Watched

The weather department has indicated that conditions are becoming favourable for the advancement of the monsoon into parts of the South Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands around 16 May, 2026.

This development is being closely monitored as it marks an important stage in the seasonal weather transition across the region.

With rainfall activity expected to intensify in multiple states, authorities have advised residents to remain alert, especially in areas vulnerable to lightning, waterlogging or strong winds. Travellers and commuters have also been urged to monitor local forecasts before planning long-distance journeys during the ongoing weather spell.
