Weather Update: Heavy Rain And Thunderstorm Alert Issued For Several States This Week
Large parts of India are expected to witness unstable weather conditions over the coming days as the India Meteorological Department has issued alerts for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in several states. The latest forecast points towards a sharp contrast in weather patterns across the country, with some regions battling severe heatwave conditions while others prepare for intense rain activity.
According to weather officials, southern and northeastern states are likely to experience widespread rainfall during the next five days. At the same time, parts of Northwest and Central India continue to remain under the grip of scorching temperatures.
Meteorologists have also indicated that monsoon conditions are gradually becoming favourable over nearby sea regions, with further advancement expected around 16 May, 2026.
Weather officials have also warned of thunderstorms and lightning activity across parts of Telangana and Coastal Karnataka. Gusty winds and brief intense rain spells may affect normal daily activity in some areas.
In Lakshadweep and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, rain-bearing systems are also expected to remain active during the week, increasing the possibility of localised heavy downpours.
Arunachal Pradesh may experience particularly intense conditions, with forecasts indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall on selected days during the week. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as prolonged rainfall could lead to waterlogging and disruption in vulnerable locations.
Meanwhile, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are also expected to remain under rainfall alerts due to ongoing thunderstorm activity.
