Weather Update: IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall Alert for Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and More Till June 2

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a widespread rain alert across several Indian states, predicting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of the country until June 2. From the southern coasts to the northern hills, monsoon-like conditions are set to dominate the weather in the coming days.

Southern India Braces for Downpour


  • Kerala, Mahe & Coastal Karnataka: Expect heavy to very heavy rainfall from May 28 to June 2. Isolated areas may witness extremely heavy showers, particularly from May 28–30.
  • South Interior Karnataka: Scattered thunderstorms and heavy rainfall likely until May 30.
  • North Interior Karnataka: Isolated rainfall expected between May 28 and 30.
  • Andhra Pradesh, Telangana & Rayalaseema: Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Telangana will see heavy showers on May 28 and 29, with very heavy rainfall expected in Telangana during this period.

Northwest India to Experience Thunderstorms


  • Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand: Light to moderate rainfall with lightning till June 2.
  • Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh: Expect scattered thunderstorms between May 29 and 31.
  • Rajasthan & Uttar Pradesh: Rain likely with thunder activity till June 2.
  • Hail Alert: Himachal Pradesh may see isolated hailstorms on May 28.
  • Heavy Rainfall Warning: Uttarakhand (May 28–June 2) and Himachal Pradesh (May 31) likely to get heavy showers.

Western India: Strong Winds and Rainfall


  • Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra: Widespread rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds forecast from May 28 to June 2.
  • Gujarat & Marathwada: Rain and storms expected on May 28 and 29, with Marathwada getting isolated heavy rainfall.
  • Heavy Alert: Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra may see very heavy rainfall on May 28–29.

Northeast India to See Intense Rainfall


  • All Seven Sister States: Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms across the region for the next 7 days.
  • Isolated Very Heavy Showers: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura from May 28 to June 2.
  • Extremely Heavy Rainfall: Mizoram (May 28), Assam & Meghalaya (May 29–30).

Rain Spells Across Central & Eastern India


  • Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bengal & Bihar: Scattered thunderstorms and rainfall till May 31.

  • Isolated Heavy Rainfall: Vidarbha, Andaman & Nicobar (May 28); Chhattisgarh (till May 29); Odisha & Gangetic Bengal (May 28–31); Jharkhand (May 28–30); Sub-Himalayan Bengal & Sikkim (May 29–June 1).

  • Very to Extremely Heavy Showers: Odisha (May 28–29), Gangetic Bengal (May 29–30), and Sub-Himalayan Bengal & Sikkim (May 30–31).

With intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds expected in multiple states, residents are advised to stay alert and follow local advisories. Travel plans may need adjustments, and precautions should be taken to avoid waterlogging, landslides, and storm-related disruptions.
