New Delhi, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : Diwali holds significant importance in Hinduism, illuminating homes with the glow of countless lamps. On this festive occasion, families adorn their houses with flowers, colorful rangoli, and beautiful lights. It is believed that performing rituals for Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha on this day brings prosperity and happiness.
According to the Hindu calendar, Diwali is celebrated on the Amavasya of the Kartik month. In 2026, this new moon night will begin on November 8 at 11:27 AM and will last until 12:31 PM on November 9. This year, Diwali will be observed on Sunday, November 8, during the Pradosh period. The evening of Diwali is particularly auspicious for worshiping Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. In New Delhi, the ideal time for Lakshmi Puja on November 8, 2026, is from 5:54 PM to 7:50 PM.
This period coincides with both Pradosh and Vrishabh Kaal, making it a propitious time for prayers. However, timings may vary slightly based on sunrise and sunset in different cities, so it is advisable to check local Panchang for accuracy. On Diwali morning, rise early to clean your home and beautifully decorate the worship area. In the evening, place a red cloth on a platform and install the idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. Begin the worship by focusing on Lord Ganesha.
Offer roli, akshat, flowers, and sweets to Goddess Lakshmi. Light incense and lamps, then perform the aarti for both deities. Finally, pray for the prosperity and happiness of your family. After the rituals, light lamps at the main entrance and other areas of your home. According to tradition, the celebration of Diwali began when Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after completing 14 years of exile, welcomed by the townsfolk who lit lamps in his honor. Prior to Diwali, Dhanteras will be celebrated on November 6, followed by Choti Diwali on November 7.
The main festival of Diwali and Lakshmi Puja will take place on November 8, with Govardhan Puja on November 10 and Bhai Dooj on November 11, 2026.
