But the question many are asking now is: Who is Raj Mantena and how has someone this wealthy stayed so under the radar? The soft-spoken, Florida-based businessman has long been known only within close circles in Hyderabad’s pharmaceutical industry. The scale of this wedding has changed that.

To understand the man behind the spectacle, ET spoke to people who know him closely and pieced together a portrait of Mantena entrepreneur, strategist and someone with a taste for grand living.

A Visionary Who Saw Ahead

“Raju has a king-size taste for luxury. His home at Manalapan (Florida) has a car museum, and the basement has a bar only the elite can think of,” a person told ET.

Mantena moved to the US after studying computer science in India. Once there, he added a pharmacy degree an unusual combination that eventually built him a fortune. His billions grew from merging two diverse worlds: technology and medicine.
He spotted early shifts in healthcare cancer therapies, digital transformation, and changing reimbursement systems in the US and built businesses ahead of the curve. He entered new ventures, scaled them rapidly, and sold them to large corporations at strong valuations.

Building Successful Healthcare Empires

From cloud-based medical solutions to affordable generics, Mantena’s ventures have consistently grown.
His flagship, Integra Connect, describes itself as a precision medicine company turning real-world cancer data into actionable insights. Under the oncology care model, Integra says it generated $260 million in value-based care revenue and over $100 million in shared savings for members.

In the 1990s, Mantena founded OncoScripts, an oncology-focused pharmacy later acquired by Cardinal Health. He followed that with International Oncology Network, a purchasing network for oncology services, bought by AmerisourceBergen (now Cencora) in 2001.

He then launched ICORE Healthcare, which helped insurance plans manage specialty drug costs. It was sold to Magellan Health Services in 2006 for over $200 million.

His generic drug venture Ingenus Pharmaceuticals remains active. In a release dated November 13, Ingenus announced US FDA approval for the only generic equivalent of Premarin, a medication used for treating osteoporosis and certain symptoms of menopause.

Quiet but Connected

Even as his businesses flourished in the US, Mantena maintained deep ties in Andhra Pradesh. “The Mantena family is related to the Gokaraju family,” a person from Hyderabad said, referring to a politically influential group in the state.

Yet, surprisingly, many senior professionals in the industry admit they knew little about him.

“At an international conference on precision medicine in Orlando recently, I do not remember seeing a representative from Integra Connect,” said a senior business development executive in oncology. Another biotech leader in San Francisco echoed a similar sentiment.

An Ingenus announcement on November 13 stated that the company received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the sole generic version of Premarin, a medication used to treat osteoporosis and certain symptoms of menopause.

Mantena’s low-profile approach may be part of the reason. His LinkedIn profile has only a few connections, and insiders say he uses it sparingly.

A Name Now in Lights

Despite years flying under the radar, the opulent celebrations in Udaipur may have changed things forever. The guest list, the performances, and the scale of the festivities have ensured that Rama Raju Mantena’s name is unlikely to fade quietly again.
He may have built his empire out of the limelight but after this wedding, the world is watching.
