Mumbai, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : Sanjay Gupta, the acclaimed filmmaker, was laid to rest on Saturday at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai. The ceremony drew numerous celebrities from the film industry, all coming together to honor the director's legacy. Among those present were actor Abhishek Bachchan, director Rakesh Roshan, and actor Fardeen Khan.
Other notable attendees included Manoj Bajpayee, Rajat Bedi, and filmmakers Ashok Pandit and Milap Zaveri. Celebrities like Rohit Roy, Ronit Roy, and Gulshan Grover also paid their tributes during Gupta's final journey. Milap Zaveri became emotional upon arriving at Gupta's home, reflecting on their close relationship. Zaveri announced plans to dedicate his upcoming film to Gupta, whom he affectionately referred to as his "godfather," "friend," and "brother." He shared a poignant memory of their last meeting on social media, recalling how excited Gupta was when Zaveri revealed the title of his new project.
"We met just ten days ago, and I told you the title of my next film. You jumped with joy and said, 'Milap! My father produced the original film with that title.' The happiness I felt in that moment and the pride I saw in you cannot be expressed in words. That title, this film... it will all be dedicated to you. I love you, Guruji. I will always love you," Zaveri wrote. Reports indicate that Gupta suffered severe head injuries from a fall on Friday night, resulting in significant blood loss.
At the time of the incident, his family—wife and two sons—were home but asleep, leading to the discovery of his condition the following morning. Gupta is remembered for several notable films, including "Kaante" (2002), "Musafir" (2004), "Zinda" (2006), "Kaabil" (2017), and "Shootout at Wadala" (2013).
