Abhishek Sharrma elated as Vasudha completes successful two years; says 'Devansh has become an important chapter of my life'
Abhishek Sharrma has become a household name with his performance as Devansh in Vasudha. The actor has received immense love for bringing the character to life, and now the show has successfully completed two years on air. As Vasudha reaches this important milestone, Abhishek looks back at his journey with gratitude, while also acknowledging the responsibility that comes with playing a character loved by so many viewers.
Talking about the first emotion that comes to his mind as the show completes two years, Abhishek said, “The first word that comes to my mind is gratitude. Two years is a long time, and when you're living the journey day after day, you don't realise how far you have come. But when I look back now, I feel grateful for everything the show has given me. The people, the experiences, the challenges and, most importantly, the love from the audience. The immense love which I received from everyone around.”
He further shared, “Devansh, the character, has become such an important chapter of my life, and it is honestly emotional to realise that we have completed two years. It has taught me a lot. It has made me a better person. It has made me realise that you keep working, you keep focusing on yourself, your craft and who you are as a human being; that is very important. That is what I have learned.”
For Abhishek, the love coming from viewers has also brought a sense of responsibility. He revealed that mothers often approach him through Instagram and other platforms and tell him how much their sons admire Devansh.
“There are so many mothers who approach me, whether through Instagram or whatever the medium is, and they always say that my son idolises you, the way the character is portrayed and all those things. So, it certainly adds some amount of responsibility that, okay, there are people who are idolising this character. How do I maintain that? How do I take it a notch higher in all aspects? So yes, it adds responsibility. This genuine response from them really makes me feel good and makes me realise that something has happened and I have done something,” he said.
Looking back at the beginning of Vasudha, Abhishek admitted that he never imagined the show would stay with the audience for two years and become such an important part of his career.
“Honestly, no one can predict something like that when they start. When you start, you're just so engrossed in the project, the storyline, the script and the characterisation. You don't predict or see things like that. You always hope the audience connects with your work, but you actually do not know how a show will evolve or how deeply the characters will stay with people,” he said.
“I remember starting the show with a lot of excitement and an equal amount of nervousness. There was this guy who just wanted to learn and perform to the fullest, and today, two years later, it feels special to see how much the show and Devansh have become a part of people's lives. For me, it has also become a very significant milestone in my career. So yeah, I'm grateful,” Abhishek added.
The actor believes patience and consistency have been his biggest learnings during these two years. Playing Devansh for hundreds of episodes has also helped him understand that an actor needs to keep discovering something new in every scene.
“I think the biggest learning has been patience and consistency. No matter what happens, no matter what you go through, it is a process that you have to go through. There's a lot to learn every single day. Playing a character for two years teaches you that acting is not only about getting that one perfect scene, but it's about showing up every day, understanding your character a little deeper and finding something new,” Abhishek explained.
He continued, “Even when you have been playing the same person for hundreds of episodes, the best thing to do is find something new every time you perform a scene. Be it a small nuance or character depth, there's a lot to learn every day. I always look at it as an acting class that I go to, and I learn every day. I enjoy and cherish that.”
Abhishek also revealed how Devansh has changed his understanding of emotions on screen. “Devansh has also taught me the value of underplaying emotions. Sometimes you don't have to say or do much; just being present in a scene can say a lot. So, that understanding has definitely changed me as an actor.”
