An opportunity for everyone in Delhi to get free electricity: the Delhi government will provide a free 3-kilowatt solar plant..
Delhi Free Solar Panel Scheme: A golden opportunity has arrived for the residents of the national capital, Delhi, to find relief from the heavy burden of electricity bills. Under the central government’s 'PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana' (PM Solar Home: Free Electricity Scheme), solar power plants with a capacity of up to 3 kW are being installed in Delhi at no cost. Furthermore, for systems with a capacity exceeding 3 kW, a substantial subsidy of up to ₹1.56 lakh is being provided. This information was shared by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta while presenting the outline of the state's solar policy during an expo held at Bharat Mandapam.
The central and Delhi governments have taken a significant step toward transforming Delhi into a model state for clean energy and environmental conservation. Through the 'PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana'—an initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi—Delhi residents are being strongly encouraged to install solar power systems. During the 'India Renewable Energy Summit and Expo' at Bharat Mandapam, and in the presence of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the key highlights of Delhi's new solar policy. She stated that the government's goal is for every rooftop in Delhi to become a source of solar energy, ensuring that every family finds permanent relief from expensive electricity bills.
Free Solar Plants up to 3 kW
Through the joint efforts of the Delhi government and the central government, special financial incentives are being offered for the installation of solar panels. Under this initiative, citizens will not have to pay anything out of their own pockets to install solar power plants with a capacity of up to 3 kW; this facility is being provided entirely free of charge.
Substantial Subsidy of up to ₹1.56 Lakh for Systems Above 3 kW
For consumers wishing to install a solar power plant with a capacity greater than 3 kW, the government is providing a significant subsidy of up to ₹1.56 lakh. The popularity of this scheme is evident from the fact that more than 100,000 citizens in Delhi have already registered under it. How to Apply for the Scheme
Visit the official national portal for the PM Surya Ghar Yojana at pmsuryaghar.gov.in. Select your state (Delhi) and your electricity distribution company. Complete the registration process by entering your electricity consumer number and your mobile number. Submit your application based on the available rooftop space and the required kilowatt (kW) capacity.
Freedom from Electricity Bills and Protection of the Environment
During the summit, the Chief Minister clarified that solar energy is being developed not merely as a technical initiative, but as an integral part of the lifestyle of Delhi residents. Installing solar panels on rooftops will allow households to generate their own electricity to meet daily needs, effectively reducing monthly electricity bills to near zero. The use of clean and renewable energy will lead to a significant reduction in carbon emissions, which will also help in curbing air pollution in the national capital.
