Bed Repair Tips: How to fix the creaking sound coming from the bed
Does your bed creak as you turn over at night? This recurring noise can disrupt your sleep. Learn easy ways to fix it at home.
How to fix the bed
The bed in your home is used daily. Sitting, lying down, or turning on it often results in a creaking sound. Initially, this sound seems small, but gradually increases to the point where it becomes difficult to sleep at night. Many people ignore it, assuming it's simply due to the bed's age. However, sometimes, loose nuts and bolts, rubbing of wooden parts, or the bed's legs moving can also cause such noises. This problem can be alleviated with a few simple steps.
Tighten the bed nuts and bolts securely.
If your bed is made of iron or wood, first check all the nuts and bolts. Often, these can gradually loosen with daily use, causing the bed to shake and make noise. Tighten any loose screws and bolts using a screwdriver or other tool. Be sure to check the corners and undersides of the bed as well. Keep in mind that overtightening screws can damage the wood, so proceed with caution.
Apply wax to wooden parts.
Wooden beds often have two parts rubbing against each other, causing a creaking sound. In this case, apply a little wax to the area where the wooden parts are rubbing against each other. Candle wax can also be used for this. This reduces the friction between the wood and helps reduce the noise. Before applying wax, clean the area of dust and dirt.
Check the legs and bottom of the bed.
Sometimes the legs of the bed don't rest firmly on the floor. In this situation, even a little pressure can cause the bed to sway and make noise. First, check whether all four legs are evenly supported. If any leg is too short or loose, place a rubber pad underneath it. Also, check the straps and supports underneath the bed. If any part is broken or wobbly, have it repaired. This will reduce the noise and strengthen the bed's grip.
