BMC Diwali Bonus 2026: How much will the bonus be?

Mayor Ritu Tawde announced the bonus following an important meeting held on Wednesday, which was attended by BMC officials and representatives of employee unions. Employees had long been demanding an increase in their bonus; following discussions, the bonus amount was set at ₹33,000.

According to the Mayor, there are 93,509 employees and 2,360 teachers working within the BMC’s Education Department. This decision will provide significant relief to the staff and teachers during the Diwali festival.

Bonus increased by ₹1,000 compared to last year.

The bonus for BMC employees has been increased this time. For the year 2024-25, employees were given a bonus of ₹31,000, followed by a bonus of ₹32,000 last year. It has now been raised to ₹33,000. The Mayor stated that this decision was made after considering the employees' demands and the current economic conditions. The contribution of the staff is vital, especially given their growing responsibilities regarding development projects in Mumbai.

Bonus to be credited along with salary on November 2

There is further good news for BMC employees: the Mayor announced that both their salaries and the bonus amount will be transferred to their accounts on November 2. This will ensure that employees receive the funds in time for their Diwali preparations, allowing them to celebrate the festival more effectively. The Mayor stated that there has been a tradition of increasing the bonus by approximately ₹2,000 to ₹2,500 each year. However, this time, the current economic challenges facing Maharashtra were also taken into account. She remarked that if farmers are grappling with a crisis, then Mumbai, too, has a social responsibility to act. The decision to increase the bonus was reached after considering all aspects.
