Ciudad Juárez humanoid mystery revives a bizarre 2007 Mexico case: A farmer reportedly trapped a tiny, alien-like creature near Metepec, but skeptics later argued that the specimen was an altered monkey, leaving a decades-old mystery behind the latest viral claims

Ever noticed how some stories come around, fascinate people, end up becoming some sort of lore, and just don’t die, irrespective of how much time has passed? Mexico’s fascination with mysterious creatures is one of them.

The latest buzz going around town? People in Ciudad Juárez say a small, hairless two-legged being is prowling local farms, scaring up all sorts of wild guesses about what it might be. Is it a deformation of some regular animal? An undiscovered species? Or, as the rumors go, something from beyond Earth: a true alien on the loose?

What is the Ciudad Juárez humanoid mystery?Per the El Paso Times, the renewed panic traces back to stories about chickens and farm animals falling victim to a strange creature that moves like a person, but hardly looks human at all. Jaime Maussan , Mexican journalist and noted UFO enthusiast, jumped at the story, quickly connecting it to one of the country’s most famous “alien” cases: the so-called Metepec Creature .

Now, Maussan points to eerie similarities.

According to local witnesses, the creature near Ciudad Juárez is about 70 centimeters tall, walks upright, and has a head that could be mistaken for a shrunken human’s. Fast and nimble, this thing reportedly grabs chickens and scurries up trees in a way that doesn’t quite fit any animal people in the area are familiar with.

Still, Maussan, while hyping the strangeness, has stopped short of calling it extraterrestrial outright. As usual, the problem is verification, as witness names and hard evidence are scarce, and local authorities say they haven’t actually found anything out of the ordinary. Most of the official response has been about storm damage, not rampaging alien monkeys.

What happened in the 2007 Metepec alien baby case? The latest buzz isn’t stopping anytime soon. As for the original story, it dates back to 2007, when photos started circulating of a little, odd-looking body supposedly discovered by a farmer near Metepec, Mexico. That “alien baby” gripped Mexico’s imagination for months, with some calling it proof of life beyond our planet. The truth, though, ended up more mundane, at least according to several investigators who later studied the remains.

A farmer reportedly found the “creature” caught in a rat trap; it was small (about the right size to fit the stories), thin, and so strange in appearance that ordinary explanations seemed almost too boring. As always happens, Jaime Maussan wound up with the body and took it on TV. The images made the rounds everywhere, but there never was any real, conclusive science published to show it was from outer space. Instead, the case morphed into a cautionary tale about how wild claims can outrun the facts.

What was the Metepec Creature?Digging deeper, skepticism caught up with the story. A few years after the so-called “alien baby” was found, researcher Alejandro Franz pointed out that the size, shape, teeth, and other features actually matched those of a squirrel monkey: a common enough animal, though not native to central Mexico. That explanation got another boost when a separate investigator, Oxlack Castro, claimed the body was actually a mummified marmoset that someone had modified, probably in a taxidermy shop. Media outlets went further, noting that the primary evidence for a real alien (think distinct bones, odd organs, DNA) had never materialized. Instead, the case showed how easily otherwise ordinary remains can be caught up in a whirlwind of speculation.

The truth is, there’s never been a single, peer-reviewed study proving what the Metepec specimen was with absolute certainty. But the overwhelming weight of animal experts lands on it being a monkey rather than a Martian.

Why are people talking about it now?Fast forward to 2026, and the cycle repeats itself. Maussan himself draws a line between the old “alien baby” and the new Juárez creature, pointing to visual similarities. But seeing a resemblance is a long way from proving that either is otherworldly, or even anything but a misidentified animal.

This all comes on the heels of last year’s supposed “alien bodies” that Maussan showed to Mexico’s Congress. Those, too, ended up being flagged by experts as a load of hot air. Mexico’s own university researchers said the tests didn’t prove anything about the bodies’ origins.

Right now, there are no verified photos, no credible scientific databases full of evidence, and no confirmed animal remains for the Juárez humanoid.

As for Maussan, he says he’ll keep looking, setting up cameras, maybe even traps. Until he comes up with something that stands up to real scientific scrutiny, this is just another fascinating story in a long line of “alien” claims that capture people’s imaginations without delivering proof.
