DL Update: Driving license will now be suspended if more than 5 traffic challans are issued..
The administration is taking stringent measures to curb road accidents and violations of traffic rules. Moving forward, strict action will be taken against repeat traffic offenders, including the suspension of their driving licenses (DL). This significant decision was reached during a meeting of the Divisional Road Safety Committee in Agra. It has been stipulated that if a vehicle has five or more recorded traffic violations (challans), the process to cancel or suspend the owner's/driver's license will be initiated.
The high-level meeting, held at the Commissionerate auditorium and chaired by Divisional Commissioner Nagendra Pratap Singh, also included in-depth discussions on ensuring safety on expressways during the winter and foggy season, as well as addressing the persistent traffic congestion within the city.
**Action against those operating auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws on a rental basis**
To tackle the severe traffic congestion caused by unregulated auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws in the city, the administration has devised a comprehensive plan. DIG (Range) Shailesh Kumar Pandey has directed that vehicle owners who purchase multiple vehicles and operate them on a rental basis be identified. Only drivers holding valid licenses will be permitted to operate these vehicles. Instructions have been issued to register cases against owners who violate regulations or illegally operate vehicles on a rental basis. Furthermore, there is a plan to implement a 'Zone System' for auto-rickshaws within the city.
**Strict safety directives**
Reports presented by the Transport and Police departments during the meeting revealed that while there has been a slight decline in incidents involving the failure to wear helmets, the use of mobile phones while driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol over the past few months, there has been an increase in instances of passengers/drivers failing to wear seatbelts and vehicles being driven in the wrong direction. In anticipation of winter fog on the Yamuna Expressway and the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, directives have been issued to reduce speed limits, install signage, trim trees, and increase the number of available ambulances and cranes. Furthermore, with a focus on the safety of schoolchildren, instructions have been given to ensure regular meetings of transport safety committees in schools and to conduct fitness checks on school vehicles.
