Exclusive - Abhijeet Sawant reacts to Qazi Touqeer's popularity in Bigg Boss 20; says 'During the first half our journey after winning shows people often taunted us arre kahan gaye woh, inka kuch nahi hoga...'
Qazi Touqeer , who returned to Indian television with Bigg Boss 20 after winning the singing reality show Fame Gurukul 21 years ago, has become one of the show's trending contestants. In an exclusive conversation with Times of India TV, Indian Idol season 1 winner Abhijeet Sawant spoke about Qazi's journey and popularity. He also praised Qazi for staying grounded and focused even after 21 years.
Abhijeet compared his journey with Qazi's and revealed how people mocked them in the years following their respective reality show wins. He said, "If you ask me, no one understands Qazi better than I do in the current situation. Whenever I see him on screen, I genuinely feel happy and wish him well. During the first half of our journey after winning our respective shows, people did not spare us. They often taunted us, 'Arre kahan gaya woh, kidhar hai show jeetne ke baad, but Pehle dekho toh hum kya kar rahe hain...'. People often get labelled as a ‘one-show wonder’ if they don't get much work after their first successful show. They start asking where the person has disappeared or what they are doing now. But before asking such questions, people should look at where that person is today and what they have achieved. At the same time, it is commendable how Qazi has stayed grounded and is focused about his own journey."
Speaking about Qazi's comeback with Bigg Boss 20 and the love he is receiving from audiences once again, Abhijeet said, "Even if you meet someone after 20 or 25 years, showing the same stability and maturity is not easy. It comes from all the experiences, disappointments and challenges you have faced over the years. That is what has shaped Qazi into the person he is today. I feel really good whenever I see him on stage."
Recalling an incident with Qazi about his show, Abhijeet shared, "I remember he was organising a show in Kashmir and called me to ask for a video message. He told me, 'Brother, you have a huge fan following here in Kashmir, so can you please send me a message...' He wanted me to encourage people to watch his show. I made a video for him, and that friendship will always remain."
Abhijeet is happy with Qazi winning audiences' hearts once again and said, "We all started our journeys around the same time and belong to the same school of thought. Whenever we talk about each other, we ask what everyone is doing. When I hear that a friend is doing well or has grown in his career, I feel happy for him. It feels good to see my friends doing well. I wish Qazi all the best for his journey ahead."
While Qazi Touqeer is currently participating in Bigg Boss 20, Abhijeet Sawant recently returned to the singing reality show Indian Idol Legends Return.
