Amid the rising threat of fake currency in the country, the Border Security Force (BSF) has taken significant action against counterfeit Indian notes. A large quantity of fake notes has been recovered from border regions in just the first six months of 2026. According to official BSF data, counterfeit notes worth a total of ₹65.25 lakh had been seized by June 30, 2026. Remarkably, this entire seizure occurred within a span of just six months.

When compared to previous figures, this year’s operation appears substantial. In 2025, the BSF seized counterfeit notes worth a total of ₹19.02 lakh. By this measure, the seizures made up to June 2026 are approximately 243% higher than the total for the entire year of 2025. Furthermore, the seized amount this year is about 74.2% higher than the ₹37.45 lakh worth of counterfeit notes seized in 2020.
