Ingredients for Indian-Style Nachos Platter

To prepare a platter for four to five people, you will need:

  • 200 grams plain or salted nachos
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella or processed cheese
  • ½ cup paneer, crumbled or finely diced
  • ½ cup boiled sweet corn
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small tomato, deseeded and chopped
  • ½ capsicum, finely chopped
  • 1 small cucumber, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons green chutney
  • 2 tablespoons sweet tamarind chutney
  • 2 tablespoons thick curd
  • ½ teaspoon chaat masala
  • ½ teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • ¼ teaspoon red chilli powder
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing
  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil

How to Prepare the Indian-Style Nachos Platter

Step 1: Prepare the Paneer Topping

Heat butter or oil in a small pan. Add the crumbled or diced paneer and sauté for a minute. Sprinkle chaat masala, roasted cumin powder and red chilli powder.

Mix gently until the paneer is coated with the spices. Switch off the heat and keep it aside. Avoid cooking the paneer for too long, as it may become firm.

Step 2: Prepare the Vegetable Toppings

Take a mixing bowl and add chopped onion, tomato, capsicum, cucumber and boiled sweet corn. Add a little salt and roasted cumin powder.

Mix everything gently. Keep the vegetables fresh and crunchy rather than cooking them, as their texture adds variety to the platter.

Step 3: Prepare the Chutney and Curd Sauces

For the green chutney, use fresh coriander, mint, green chilli, lemon juice and a little salt. Blend the ingredients into a smooth paste.

Whisk the curd until creamy and mix it with a pinch of roasted cumin powder and black salt. Keep the sweet tamarind chutney ready separately.

These sauces add different flavours to the platter, from refreshing and tangy to mildly sweet.

Step 4: Arrange the Nachos

Take a large serving platter or a wide tray. Spread the nachos evenly across the surface, creating a slightly overlapping layer.

Avoid crushing the chips while arranging them. You can also divide the nachos into smaller sections if you want to create separate flavour combinations.

Step 5: Add the Paneer and Vegetable Toppings

Spread the prepared paneer mixture over the nachos. Add the chopped vegetables and sweet corn evenly across the platter.

Try to distribute the toppings so that every portion contains a combination of crunchy chips, vegetables and paneer.

Step 6: Add Melted Cheese

Sprinkle grated cheese over the nachos. Place the platter in a preheated oven at around 180°C for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese melts.

If you do not have an oven, arrange the nachos in a wide, heat-safe pan, add the cheese and cover it briefly over low heat until melted. Make sure the base does not burn.

Step 7: Finish With Chutneys and Garnishes

Remove the platter from the oven or pan. Drizzle green chutney, tamarind chutney and seasoned curd over the top.

Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and a little extra chaat masala. Serve immediately while the nachos are still crunchy and the cheese is warm.

Tips to Make Your Nachos Platter More Delicious

  • Use sturdy nachos so they can hold the toppings without breaking easily.
  • Add wet ingredients just before serving to prevent the chips from becoming soggy.
  • Use fresh vegetables for a crunchy texture.
  • Adjust the chutneys and spices according to your guests' preferences.
  • Add finely chopped jalapeños if you enjoy extra heat.
  • Keep some toppings and sauces separately so guests can customise their portions.
  • Serve the platter immediately after adding the sauces and melted cheese.

Creative Variations to Try

You can experiment with different toppings to give your Indian-style nachos platter a new flavour.

  • Paneer Tikka Nachos: Add grilled paneer cubes marinated in curd and tikka spices.
  • Chole Nachos: Use a small quantity of thick, well-drained chickpea masala as a topping.
  • Desi Salsa Nachos: Combine chopped tomatoes, onion, coriander, green chilli and lemon juice.
  • Corn and Cheese Nachos: Add extra sweet corn, cheese and a little black pepper for a simple combination.
An Indian-style nachos platter is a creative way to bring together crunchy chips, spicy paneer, fresh vegetables, cheese and traditional chutneys. Its colourful appearance makes it suitable for festive gatherings, while the customisable toppings allow you to prepare different combinations for your guests. With simple ingredients and minimal preparation, you can turn ordinary nachos into an exciting party snack that adds a delicious twist to your festive menu.
