Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 Puja Samagri: Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most important Hindu festivals dedicated to Lord Ganesha. This year, there has been some confusion over whether the festival will be observed on September 13 or September 14. According to the Panchang, however, the Chaturthi Tithi begins on the morning of September 14 and continues until the morning of September 15
Based on the Udaya Tithi, Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on September 14, 2026. Devotees will install the idol of Lord Ganesha and perform the special puja on this day.
Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 Puja Samagri ListBefore bringing Bappa home, devotees should keep all the necessary puja items ready. The main offerings used during Ganesh Puja include:
- Lord Ganesha idol
- Durva grass
- Red flowers
- Modak
- Fruits
- Sweets
- Clean and whole rice grains
- Panchamrit
- Water
- Clothes for the idol
- Puja thali and other regular puja items
Among these, Durva, red flowers and modaks
Devotees do not need elaborate arrangements to welcome Bappa into their homes. Ganesh Sthapana can be performed with a simple and devotional procedure.
First, thoroughly clean the area where the puja will be performed. Place a chowki or stool at the selected spot and cover it with a clean cloth.
Next, carefully place the idol of Lord Ganesha on the chowki. After the Sthapana, bathe the idol with clean water and then perform the Panchamrit Abhishek
Once the Abhishek is complete, offer clothes, flowers, Durva and other puja materials to Lord Ganesha. Devotees can then offer modaks, fruits and sweets, perform the Aarti and distribute the Prasad among family members.
Which Things Should Not Be Offered to Lord Ganesha? While preparing the Ganesh Chaturthi puja samagri, devotees should also remember that certain offerings are traditionally avoided.
Tulsi Is Not Offered in Ganesh PujaAccording to a popular mythological tradition, Tulsi leaves are not offered to Lord Ganesha
It is believed that Tulsi once proposed marriage to Lord Ganesha, but he rejected the proposal. Angered by this, Tulsi is said to have cursed Ganesha that he would marry twice. Lord Ganesha, in response, cursed Tulsi to marry a demon.
Tulsi later sought forgiveness. Lord Ganesha then said that Tulsi would become dear to Lord Vishnu, but would not be used in his own worship.
Therefore, Tulsi Dal is traditionally avoided during Ganesh Puja
Ketaki flowers are also traditionally not offered to Lord Ganesha. Devotees should also ensure that the rice used during the puja is clean and unbroken, as whole rice grains are considered appropriate for religious offerings.
Ganeshotsav 2026 to Continue for 10 DaysThe celebrations will begin with Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14, 2026
During Ganeshotsav, devotees will worship Lord Ganesha in homes as well as public pandals. Morning and evening Aartis, bhajan-kirtan and various religious programmes will form part of the celebrations.
The festival will conclude on September 25, 2026, on Anant Chaturdashi. On this day, devotees traditionally perform Ganpati Visarjan and bid an emotional farewell to Bappa.
However, not everyone keeps the idol for the full 10 days. Depending on family and regional traditions, Ganpati Visarjan may also be performed after one and a half, three, five or seven days
Lord Ganesha is revered as Vighnaharta, or the remover of obstacles, and is considered the first deity to be worshipped before beginning an auspicious activity.
Hindu tradition places great importance on remembering Lord Ganesha before starting new or important work. Devotees believe that his worship brings wisdom, intelligence, prosperity and the removal of obstacles
On Ganesh Chaturthi, families pray to Bappa for happiness, peace, good health and prosperity. After 10 days of worship and celebration, devotees immerse the idol on Anant Chaturdashi while asking Lord Ganesha to return again the following year.
