**What the experts say**

Saumil Gandhi, Senior Commodities Analyst at HDFC Securities, states that statements from the Federal Reserve and the strengthening US dollar have dampened the shine of gold. The Dollar Index remains above 100—its highest level since late July. A stronger dollar makes purchasing gold in other currencies more expensive, which impacts its price. Meanwhile, Federal Reserve officials have indicated that interest rates could remain high for an extended period.
