How to Deseed a Pomegranate in Under a Minute: 7 Simple Tricks to Try
Pomegranates are delicious, but getting those ruby-red arils out can be surprisingly tedious. Instead of picking them one by one, use the fruit’s natural sections and a simple tapping trick to remove several seeds at once.
Use the back of a wooden spoon or another blunt kitchen tool. The goal is to loosen the arils, not crush them.
Most importantly, tap firmly, not aggressively. Excessive force can burst the arils and leave you with more juice and a bigger cleanup. With a little practice, this simple technique can turn pomegranate preparation into a quick and nearly mess-free kitchen task.
1. Cut off the crown
Place the pomegranate on a chopping board and carefully slice off the small crown at the top. Keep the cut shallow so the arils remain intact. You should be able to see the pale membranes dividing the fruit into sections.2. Score the peel
Look for the light lines running down from the top. Using the tip of a knife, lightly score the peel along these natural divisions. Avoid cutting deep into the fruit, as this can release juice and create a mess.3. Break it into sections
Gently pull the fruit apart along the scored lines. Separate it into a few manageable sections, keeping the arils inside the peel. Smaller sections are easier to handle and tap.4. Hold it over a deep bowl
Take one section and turn the arils towards your palm. Hold it over a deep, wide bowl, keeping your hand close to the bowl so the seeds do not bounce away when they fall. You may also like

5. Tap the peel
Using the back of a wooden spoon, firmly tap the outside of the peel. Move across the section rather than repeatedly hitting one spot. The tapping loosens the arils, allowing them to drop into the bowl.6. Rotate and repeat
Turn the section as you tap to reach different areas. Use controlled, firm taps instead of hitting too hard. If a few arils remain, simply loosen them with your fingers.7. Repeat with the rest
Continue with the remaining sections until the bowl is filled with arils. Some white pith may fall in too, so remove it before serving. It has a bitter taste and is usually discarded.Keep the process mess-free
