Hyderabad's new IMAX screen could arrive in time for Dune 3
IMAX is having a moment, with Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and SS Rajamouli’s upcoming Varanasi putting large-format cinema in the spotlight. In Hyderabad, the conversation now has a more specific timeline. Having told us in June that the new IMAX screen at AMB Classic Victory would open around Dussehra or Diwali, film exhibitor and Asian Cinemas MD Suniel Narang has now said it is likely to open by November-end or December.
Speaking on Permit Room, a pop-culture and interview podcast on YouTube, Narang also shared more details, including the possibility of Dune: Part Three being among the first films screened there. He said the decision to introduce IMAX followed a suggestion from Mahesh Babu . “After he told us, we did it immediately, and luckily, it got okayed,” he said. “Venkatesh, Rana, Mahesh Babu and all of us are coming together for it.”

The timing is particularly relevant as the film is set to release on December 18. The third film in Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi trilogy combines IMAX-certified digital cameras with physical 15-perf 65mm IMAX film cameras, featuring 71 minutes of expanded IMAX footage and select presentations in the taller 1.43:1 aspect ratio.
