Kalki 2890 AD Part 2: Prabhas' Sequel to Begin Shooting in October 2026

Nag Ashwin’s much-awaited sequel Kalki 2890 AD Part 2 continues to remain a major talking point among Indian cinema fans. The film follows the success of Kalki 2898 AD, which featured Prabhas in the lead and brought together a prominent ensemble cast.

The sequel was announced following the strong response to the first film, with Prabhas set to reprise his role as the story moves further into its futuristic world inspired by Hindu mythology.

Director Nag Ashwin recently shared an update on the progress of Kalki 2898 AD Part 2

during an interview with India Today. He revealed that regular filming is scheduled to begin soon and expressed hope that the shoot will be completed by the middle of next year.

Ashwin also reflected on the journey of making the first film, from its initial concept to its release and reception across India and other parts of the world. According to him, the response from audiences became an important validation for the team.

The filmmaker further said that the National Award has provided additional motivation to continue working in the right direction. He also recalled meeting children who continued to express their excitement about the sequel even two years after the first film’s release.

According to reports, regular shooting for Kalki 2890 AD Part 2

is expected to begin in October 2026, with filming likely to continue until mid-2027.

Kalki 2890 AD Part 2 Cast

The first instalment featured Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Dulquer Salmaan, Kamal Haasan and Deepika Padukone in key roles. The sequel is expected to carry forward the larger storyline introduced in the first film.

Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan are set to return for the second part, continuing their respective roles in the futuristic saga.

Deepika Padukone, however, is not expected to reprise her character Sumathi, also known as SUM-80

, in the sequel. The makers had earlier indicated that she would not return due to differences in views regarding the project.

At present, there has been no official confirmation about who will replace Deepika Padukone. However, names including Sai Pallavi and Alia Bhatt have been circulating in reports and speculation surrounding the film.
