Newspoint
A new Malayalam family drama is set to explore beauty, identity, and the judgments people face because of their appearance. Titled Kanmashi , the serial follows Rohini , a young woman who grows up facing prejudice over her complexion and slowly finds the courage to define herself on her own terms.

Devika Jijeesh plays Rohini, the central character whose journey forms the heart of the story. Though she grows up surrounded by constant comments about her appearance, Rohini is shown as a resilient woman who refuses to let society’s perceptions determine her identity or worth.

The title Kanmashi, the familiar Malayalam word for kajal, carries a deeper meaning in the narrative. Traditionally used to highlight the eyes, it becomes a metaphor for the emotions, character, and truths that appearances often fail to reveal.

Rohini’s strongest emotional anchor is her father, Krishnan, played by Sreejith Kaiveli. His sacrifices have shaped her life, and their bond forms one of the emotional foundations of the story. Strained family relationships and unhealed wounds add further layers to Rohini’s journey. Her life takes an unexpected turn when Venu, played by Yuva Krishna, enters the picture. A compassionate bank manager carrying unresolved chapters from his own past, Venu gradually becomes part of Rohini’s world. What begins as an unlikely relationship soon leads them towards buried truths, family secrets and unanswered questions.

Kanmashi goes beyond a conventional romance, bringing together family emotions, relationships, mystery and an unexpected supernatural connection. At its heart, the story explores colour-based prejudice and society’s idea of beauty, while highlighting character, courage, compassion and self-belief.

The story is written by Pradeep Paniker, known for emotionally engaging stories built around strong characters and family relationships. With Kanmashi, he brings together themes of identity, love, family dynamics and social perceptions, adding layers of emotion and intrigue to Rohini’s journey.

With Devika Jijeesh, Yuva Krishna, Chilanka, Rekha Ratheesh, Sharan and Sreejith Kaiveli leading the cast, Kanmashi blends family conflict, romance, mystery and emotion in a story that looks beyond appearances and societal perceptions. The show will have its much-awaited premiere on Monday, October 5, at 8 pm.
