If you are planning to book a gas cylinder, there is significant news for you. The price of commercial LPG cylinders has dropped in rural areas. In certain villages and small towns across Uttar Pradesh, the 19 kg commercial cylinder is available at rates roughly ₹200 to ₹600 lower than the official price. While the fixed price in Kushinagar is around ₹2,946, customers in some locations are able to purchase it for between ₹2,400 and ₹2,700. However, there has been no such reduction in the price of domestic LPG cylinders.

A few months ago, people faced considerable difficulties regarding gas supplies. Long queues formed for commercial cylinders, and availability was scarce in many places. Now, with improvements in the supply chain, the situation in rural areas has changed. Due to low demand, some gas agencies are selling commercial cylinders at reduced prices to clear their stock quickly.

Why are commercial cylinders available at lower prices?

The primary reason cited is the low demand for 19 kg cylinders in villages. When gas agencies receive a delivery of full cylinders, they are required to return an equivalent number of empty ones. If a sufficient number of empty cylinders are not returned, future supplies could be disrupted.

Consumption of commercial cylinders remains low in rural areas due to the limited number of large hotels, restaurants, and other commercial clients. Consequently, cylinders tend to accumulate at the agencies. To maintain the supply cycle, some agencies are offering them to customers at lower prices.

Difference between domestic and commercial cylinder prices

It is important to note that this price benefit applies primarily to the 19 kg commercial cylinder; there has been no such reduction in the price of domestic LPG cylinders. For instance, in Delhi, the price of a 14.2 kg domestic cylinder is approximately ₹942, whereas a 19 kg commercial cylinder costs around ₹2,747.50. In Kushinagar, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder is reported to be around ₹1,014, while the official price for a commercial cylinder is approximately ₹2,946. However, locally, commercial cylinders are available at a lower price.

**Cylinder booking in villages now possible after 25 days**

There has been another change for LPG customers. Previously, a gap of 45 days was required between bookings for domestic cylinders in rural areas; this has now been reduced to 25 days. The Ministry of Petroleum implemented this change following improved gas supplies and a reduction in the backlog. Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum have also adopted this system. Now, like urban customers, rural customers will also be able to book domestic LPG cylinders at 25-day intervals.

**Points to consider when purchasing a cylinder**

If a customer is offered a commercial cylinder at a lower price, certain precautions should be taken during the purchase. Check the correct price and weight of the cylinder, and ensure you obtain a payment receipt. If the price seems unusually low, verify that the cylinder is being sourced from a registered agency.

Additionally, do not confuse commercial cylinders with domestic ones; their usage and pricing differ. While prices for commercial cylinders may be lower in some rural areas due to limited demand, this discount does not necessarily apply in every city or at every agency.
