Actor Mayur Verma, known for shows such as Swaragini – Jodein Rishton Ke Sur and Jeannie Aur Juju, is set to make his Hollywood debut with the thriller Sweatpants. The actor, who has been away from Indian television for the past three years, says taking the opportunity meant stepping out of his comfort zone.

“I know I have been missing from the small screen for the past three years. I’m currently in the US shooting for my upcoming Hollywood movie. I’m waiting eagerly for the release of the film to surprise my audience. I hope I get the same love and appreciation from my audience,” he says.

Mayur admits that leaving familiar territory was a calculated risk. “It was a big risk. However, I couldn’t resist it because it was a dream come true opportunity for any actor. I do really miss being on television. I want my people to be proud of me and the work I have done,” he adds.

Having worked across television and Bollywood, Mayur feels each industry has taught him something different. “Television taught me discipline — you’re working every day, learning quickly and constantly performing. Bollywood was a different experience because I got more time to understand the character and explore things creatively. And Hollywood is another new chapter for me. The scale, the environment and the way of working are different, but acting is still acting.”

For him, the biggest lesson has been learning to start afresh. “Every time you switch industries, you have to prove yourself all over again. It’s scary, but honestly that’s what makes it exciting too. The biggest lesson for me has been learning to trust myself and not be scared of starting from scratch. You can’t control what opportunities come your way, but you can control how ready you are when they do.”

Mayur began his television career with Jeannie Aur Juju and went on to feature in Swaragini, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, Kya Huaa Tera Vaada, CID and Aahat. He made his Bollywood debut with Zindagi Tumse.
