Not everyone follows the usual path of success through studying, getting a stable job, marrying, and settling down. Some people choose an exceptional path that takes courage and often under a pile of questions for it.

Himani Mittal is one of those people. She is 30 and comes from a middle-class Marwari family in Abu Road, Rajasthan. She has never worked a traditional 9-to-5 job, and she has changed careers six times. Money was never abundant at home, so she learned early that financial independence mattered to her, and for her it meant having the freedom to make her own decisions.

Meet Himani Mittal who never did a 9 to 5 job, switched careers for 6 times and lives a life beyond societal expectationsHimani Mittal, a 30-year-old woman from Abu Road in Rajasthan, has never worked a traditional 9-to-5 job. She has changed careers six times, comes from a middle-class Marwari family, and has always valued financial independence and the freedom to make her own choices.

In a video posted on Instagram, Himani said she realised at a young age that she would need to earn for herself if she wanted to live on her own terms. At 21, she started teaching Spanish, even though she was still learning the language herself. When Covid-19 hit and she was 23, she moved her work fully online. That allowed her to keep earning while exploring new options.

She moved to Spain at the age of 25After finishing a master's degree in filmmaking, Himani moved to Spain at 25 to teach English. She said, “I stayed there for 3 years and travelled around Europe, and met amazing people who completely changed my perspective on timelines. I learnt what a life of freedom actually looks like, so when I came back to India, two years ago, I knew I wanted to continue living life on my own terms. So instead of marrying and settling down, I moved to Delhi last year, then to Kerala 3 months ago.”
