No more worrying about confirmed tickets for Diwali and Chhath; 9 special trains to run starting October 1st
Northern Railway has decided to operate several festival special trains to facilitate travel during Diwali and Chhath Puja. These services will commence on October 1st, with some continuing until the end of November.
If you are planning to travel home for Diwali or Chhath Puja and are worried about train tickets, the Railways has some welcome news for you. In anticipation of the festive rush and long waiting lists, Northern Railway has decided to run multiple special trains. These trains will benefit passengers traveling between Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Maharashtra.
In an official post on X, the Railways announced that the operation of these special trains will begin on October 1, 2026, with many services running through the end of November. This provides travelers heading home for the festivals with additional train options for booking tickets. Let’s take a look at the routes and the specific special trains that will be running.
Which special trains will run for the Diwali-Chhath period?
New Delhi-Supaul Special Train (04072/04071)
This train will run daily from New Delhi between October 1 and November 28, 2026. The return service from Supaul will operate from October 3 to November 30. The train will halt at major stations such as Ghaziabad, Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Buxar, Ara, Patna, Hajipur, Barauni, Khagaria, and Saharsa, completing a total of 118 trips.
The train will depart from New Delhi at 9:35 PM and arrive in Supaul at 6:35 AM on the third day.
On the return journey, it will depart from Supaul at 7:45 AM and reach New Delhi at 3:00 PM. Anand Vihar-Bhagalpur Special Train (04062/04061)
Daily service from Anand Vihar will be available from October 10 to November 25, while the return service from Bhagalpur will run from October 11 to November 26. This train will pass through stations such as Prayagraj, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, Patna, Mokama, Kiul, Jamalpur, and Sultanganj. The train will complete 94 trips.
It will depart from Anand Vihar at 12:00 PM and arrive in Bhagalpur at 1:30 PM the next day.
On the return journey, it will depart from Bhagalpur at 4:30 PM and arrive at Anand Vihar at 8:00 PM the next day.
New Delhi-Howrah Special Express (04052/04051)
This train will run from New Delhi every Friday between October 2 and November 27. However, the return service from Howrah will operate every Sunday between October 4 and November 29. The train will make a total of 18 trips.
It will depart from New Delhi at 6:15 PM and arrive in Howrah at 11:40 PM the next day.
On the return journey, it will depart from Howrah at 1:00 AM and arrive in New Delhi at 8:20 AM the next day.
Yog Nagari Rishikesh-Muzaffarpur Special (04314/04313)
This train will run from Rishikesh on Tuesdays and Thursdays between October 1 and November 29. The return service from Muzaffarpur will operate on Wednesdays and Fridays between October 2 and November 30. The train will complete 36 trips.
It will depart from Rishikesh at 3:20 PM and arrive in Muzaffarpur at 11:45 AM the next day.
On the return journey, it will depart from Muzaffarpur at 1:15 PM.
Yog Nagari Rishikesh-Kolkata Special (04312/04311)
The train will run from Rishikesh every Friday between October 16 and November 20, and the return service from Kolkata will operate every Sunday between October 18 and November 22. It will depart from Rishikesh at 10:20 PM and reach Kolkata at 8:00 AM on the third day.
On the return journey, it will depart from Kolkata at 1:55 PM.
Amritsar-Kolkata Special Express (04624/04623)
The train will run from Amritsar every Wednesday from October 7 to November 25, and the return service from Kolkata will operate every Saturday from October 10 to November 28.
Departing from Amritsar at 8:10 PM, it will reach Kolkata at 3:00 PM on the third day.
On the return journey, the train will depart from Kolkata at 9:05 PM.
Amritsar-Barauni Special Express (04668/04667)
This service will be available from Amritsar every Sunday from October 4 to November 29. However, the train will run from Barauni every Tuesday from October 6 to December 1.
Departing from Amritsar at 8:10 PM, it will reach Barauni at 2:10 AM on the third day.
On the return journey, it will depart from Barauni at 5:05 AM and reach Amritsar at 1:50 PM the next day.
Sultanpur-Mumbai Special Train (04212/04211)
The train will run from Sultanpur every Wednesday from October 21 to November 11, while the return service from Mumbai will operate every Thursday from October 22 to November 12.
Departing from Sultanpur at 4:00 AM, it will reach Mumbai at 2:00 PM the next day.
On the return journey, departing from Mumbai at 3:00 PM, it will reach Sultanpur at 11:00 PM the next day.
Varanasi-Mumbai Special Train (04226/04225)
The train will run from Varanasi every Thursday from October 22 to November 12, while the return service from Mumbai will operate every Friday from October 23 to November 13.
Departing from Varanasi at 1:35 AM, it will reach Mumbai at 2:00 PM the next day. On the return journey, it will depart from Mumbai at 3:00 PM and arrive in Varanasi at 2:05 AM.
