Pitru Paksha Vastu Tips: Things to Avoid Near Ancestor Photos

Pitru Paksha is considered an important period for remembering and paying respect to ancestors in Hindu tradition. This year, the 16-day period begins on September 26 and concludes on October 10 with Sarva Pitru Amavasya.

During Pitru Paksha, families perform rituals such as Tarpan and Pind Daan to honour their ancestors. According to Vastu beliefs, the placement and surroundings of ancestor photographs are also important.

Certain items are traditionally advised against near these portraits, as they are believed to affect harmony within the household.

Keep Ancestor Photos Separate From the Pooja Room

According to Vastu principles, photographs of ancestors should not be placed inside the pooja room along with pictures or idols of deities. Ancestors and deities are traditionally given separate spaces in the home.

It is also advised not to position photographs of ancestors directly opposite religious idols or pictures.

Keeping the two spaces separate is believed to help maintain balance and a peaceful atmosphere in the house.

Avoid Garbage and Unnecessary Clutter

Garbage, discarded objects and unnecessary clutter should not be kept around or in front of ancestor photographs. Vastu Shastra considers such surroundings unsuitable and associates clutter with negative energy and obstacles in the household.

Keeping the area around ancestor portraits clean and organised is therefore traditionally recommended.

Do Not Place Photos of Living Family Members Together
